After having previously held the position of student assistant giving the course “„Transferring and Positioning of Stroke Patients“” for logopedics/ speech therapists, in the third consecutive year and after having finished my Bachelor’s, I innovated the course to the class “Ergonomics and Safety in Stroke Patient Care” for the faculty of Health and Social Studies, HAN University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen).
Tasks included:
- Consulting with the head of the academic section
- Processing students feedback collected during previous years
- Updating and extending course structure and course material
- Creating first versions of teaching material (f.i. student handouts; briefing material)
For one period one full day of class was given to two groups of 15-20 students every other week, while students were assigned to independently rehearse taught practical skills during the week off.
For one day one occupational therapy and one dietitian last year student were invited to give a brief insight into multidisciplinary teamwork in stroke patient care.
In total 10 undergraduate students assisted with the practical lessons. I previously recruited them, coordinated and scheduled their assignment, briefed them on organizational issues at the start of the course and prior to every practical lesson.
