Jakarta, capitol of Indonesia, is the biggest city of South-East Asia and possess a 13-times higher population density than the Ruhr area in Germany. Most recently, changing social dynamics led to religious-political tensions in the capitol of a country that was known for its religious and cultural pluralism for a long time thus far. Scientific researcher Dr. Timo Duile from the Department for Oriental and Asian Studies at Bonn University shares with us his view and opinions based on his research conducted from Dezember 2016 to April 2017 and several other stays in Jakarta.

…and the Future

Geographical position and Social Situation

#Eviction, #vacation of #Kampung – illegal #informalhousing, #slums – near river due to #humanitarian reasons: #Jakarta just above sea level, & ongoing enviromental & social issues (over-usage of underground water, severe pollution of rivers) pic.twitter.com/qVkYOZjlNu

About Me

Hi, I’m Jan-Frederic. Besides stoically gazing into the future, I like to contemplate and write about everything that moves the past, present and future of our human existence, especially in the urban context, into the right direction.
