The Staccato-Society: Will People Inform Themselves and Communicate Differently in 2030?

2018-03-17 The Staccato Society.2

New publicly available media production and broadcasting means stir up the news and information landscape, old institutions are thrown off and can’t fulfill their old functions, overburdening illiterate consumers and leaving society at large disoriented and in limbo about what is real and true and what is not. Are there any pros coming forth out of this development? What needs to be done to regain order and give direction? Experts weight in as part of German Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) and deutsche ict+ Medienakademie TechFutures: Future-Lab Digital lecture series.

What’s News anyway?

Inundation of #news, everyone can & has means (low-cost tech & #mediaoutlet) to produce & broadcast news (f.i. #YouTube) – no quality & truth protection, assurance; no gold standard. Hans Demmel, @ntvde @VPRT_Presse. #TechFutures #Zukunftslabor #digital @bpb_de #BigData #AI

Unrestricted access to means of production and consumption of news to everyone accelerates the democratization process of a former, on the one hand, rigid institutionalized and, on the other, privately commercialized information medium. Removal of barriers to entry to the broadcasting landscape, however, also abrogates market regulatory mechanisms that preserve quantity and quality, relating to the standards set and realized by entities in power.

#Society overwhelmed by inundation with #news – creates #media and #news bubble, own reality, own truth. Hans Demmel, Director @ntvde & CEO @VPRT_Presse. #TechFutures #Zukunftslabor #digital @bpb_de #BigData #AI @Fraunhofer_FIT

Individual’s limited possibilities of sifting through all available data and information and quality assurance multiplies the number of unique and individually biased – even more so than before abrogating power of former gate keepers – realities and truths.

Ingrained in the process of radical innovation and reality shift, after chaos, the demand for order normally increases and institutionalization of old regulatory functions in the “new world”, the digitized and virtual/ online world in this case, led by the most powerful voice(s) proceeds and helps making sense of the new composition of the old, i.e. creating a majority consented truth and reality.
